One of just two shochu distilleries in Chiran Village, Chiran Distillery has been making sweet potato shochu since 1919. Situated in the highest grossing green tea production region in Japan, Chiran is a natural setting for the innovation of Japan’s first sweet potato and green tea shochu.

Nobiru Mori, born in 1970, is the 4th generation master brewer-distiller and president of Chiran Distillery. He has been running the distillery since 2011 and created Chiran Tea Chu in 2017, borne of his love of sweet potato shochu and locally grown green tea.
